The Inimitable Cindy Allen

Cindy Allen is the esteemed Editor in Chief of Interior Design magazine, as well as a unique & positively exuberant woman. Her heart is a bottomless well of love & generosity; her curiosity & wit are contagious.  Such a treat to be around, she is one of my all-time favorite clients.
I have had the joy of working with Cindy for several years - my awe and adoration of her doubling upon itself each time I make up her smiling face.

She'd be inducted into my personal Hall of Fame:
People I aspire to be like when I grow up.
Interior Design inducts honorees to their Hall of Fame at an annual gala held at the Waldorf-Astoria. Being the hostess of the event, Cindy looks to me to polish her already-beaming radiance for an adoring audience of 1100+ guests. This year Cindy invited me to attend - the 25th anniversary, no less - as she sensed my interest in the design world.

What an honor to be in the same room with luminaries, and to witness the brilliance of new ideas! If you have any inclination, I urge you to read up on the honorees. Truly fascinating.

Pencey Holiday 2oo9 Collection

Earlier this year I worked on a look book shoot for Pencey label's bad-ass holiday collection. Click the top image for direct link to see full Holiday line..

Oh yeah, I did the hair too.

Zac Posen launches Z Spoke

Earlier this week Zac Posen asked me to do makeup on some promotion photos for his new spin-off label, Z Spoke. Here are some of the images we made..

Vuitton: I painted Kim's face, then I drew her

I did this portrait of Kim Noorda backstage at the Louis Vuitton f/w 2oo9 show. I'd just finished her makeup and - since her hair was already completed by Guido's team - she stayed in my chair reading to pass the time til first looks. This drawing took me about 6 minutes maybe 7. Then I had to shoo her along so I could make up Kendra:

Reem Acra Bridal 2o1o Collection

Reem Acra is a Lebanese designer in NYC and she perennially creates some of the most gorgeous wedding gowns. In addition to her bridal collections, she designs stunning ready-to-wear and a line of accessories, all of which are often worn by celebrities... and longingly coveted by mortals. (I dream about one of her neckpieces.)

I recently had the honor of keying her bridal presentation for the second season in a row. Last season we went for grown-up sophistication with a smokey eye. This time, Reem wanted a very fresh, young look to the makeup - and hair as well, which was executed by Teddi of Bb. Here is a shot of the final look taken at the makeup test, modeled by the lovely Holland:

The fresh-faced look is achieved with very minimal use of Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage en lieu of full foundation, followed by Lancome Subtle Fluff blush applied to the apples of the cheeks, and 3C Mood Lighting Shimmer Creme in Afterglow on the cheekbones/browbone/chin/tearduct areas. The compliment Shimmer Creme On Fire is placed at the hair- and jawline. Lips were prepped with Karite Lips (always!), and the brightest YSL hot pink lipstick popped into the inner edge at the center of the mouth, with Benefit Lip Plump muting out the majority of the lips to keep the look soft. I curled the lash with a Shu Uemura eyelash curler and applied a dark brown Lancome mascara to the upper lashes only. Finally, MAC Taupe liner went in the lower inner rim of the eyes, followed by MAC pigment in Subtle along the upper and lower lashline.

...et voilĂ !

LA: Tonight Show with Wolfmother 1o/26/o9

Lucky me, I got to work with Wolfmother again on Monday, for an appearance on the Tonight Show in Los Angeles. They played "New Moon Rising", the first single on their new record "Cosmic Egg". What a treat to work with gents Andrew, Ian, Aidan & Dave, and to be in the audience for this huge-sounding performance.

Rock is Alive & Well

...and it lives in Andrew Stockdale's afropuff.

As of late, I get to play with the front man for Wolfmother's hair. Hair that is bar none the best hair on anyone I have ever touched in the whole world ever. Each time we work together, I gush and unintelligibly coo to Andrew about how his hair rules the school. Gush gush gush.

This most recent time, I got Andrew ready for his magazine interviews and photos at the band's hotel. The morning light is not very rock n' roll, but you can clearly see the righteous Mane of Rock.

Later that night, the band played a surprise show at the tiny venue Bowery Electric. Everything in this cruddy-quality video from that night's show fully rocks.. especially the 'fro that would likely be identifiable even from outer space.

PS. Wolfmother will be back Nov 8th to play @ Terminal 5: ROCK!

NYC Fashion Week S/S 2010 Collections

I LOVE the shows. I enjoy every rushed minute leading up to any and every show. Let me double-team (sometimes triple) with 2 min til the show starts, give me false lashes to re-affix and when there are bruises to cover in lineup I'm on my knees... Just don't clock me in the head with your cameras, VFD ;)

Here are some of my girls from this week's spring collections in NYC:

2oo9 VMA's

Yesterday I had the pleasure of working with my boys, the All-American Rejects, for the Video Music Awards at Radio City Music Hall. Tyson's current thang is getting glittered up for live shows - here's how it I do it:

Ready to perform & watching the dressing room monitor

Post-awards car ride back to hotel, glitter intact.
I like to call this a "fine art photo" :)
